How to use the Seamless Tile Maker

  1. Drop a tile or try the grass sample, which has obvious seams.
  2. Look at the 3×3 preview with seam lines and the seam contrast number.
  3. Click 'Make seamless' with the dithered blend to keep your palette, or smooth for painterly tiles.
  4. Turn on 'show offset' to move the old edges to the middle, and fix leftovers with the pencil (right-click picks a color).
  5. Download the tile, or a 3×3 preview PNG at any scale.

What you get

  • Seamless tile PNG at 1×–16×
  • 3×3 tiled preview PNG
  • Seam contrast number to compare versions

Tips from making games with it

  • Dithered blending picks between the original and the offset tile per pixel, so no new colors appear. Use it for strict palettes.
  • A narrow blend width (3–6 px on a 32 px tile) keeps most of the original detail; wider bands hide stronger lighting gradients.
  • Lighting baked into one corner is the usual cause of visible tiling. Keep light even across a ground tile.
  • After blending, look at the 3×3 view from a distance. Repeating 'eye-catching' details (a single flower) give the pattern away more than seams do.

Use cases

  • Ground, wall and water tiles for top-down games
  • Fixing seams in AI-generated or photo-based textures
  • Background patterns for menus and websites
  • Checking that a tileset tile wraps correctly

FAQ

How does 'make seamless' work?
It blends the tile with a copy shifted by half its size. At the edges the shifted copy is used, whose wrap-around neighbours were next to each other in the original, so the seam disappears. Toward the middle the original takes over.
Will it add new colors?
Not with the dithered mode, which chooses one of the two source pixels at every position. Smooth mode mixes colors and can add new ones.
What is the seam contrast number?
How different the pixels across the tile edges are, compared with ordinary neighbouring pixels inside the tile. Around 1× the seam blends in like any other pixel boundary; 2× and above it shows when tiled.
Can I undo?
Yes. Blends, offsets and pencil strokes can be undone and redone with the buttons or Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z.
Is my tile uploaded?
No. All processing happens in your browser.
