  1. v1.0

    AI Sprite Maker is live

Today we’re opening AI Sprite Maker to everyone. This is the first public release, so here’s everything that’s in it, and the few things that aren’t switched on yet.

    Generator

    • Sprite Studio at /create: still sprites, characters, items and icons, tiles and UI pieces (2 credits each, 1 or 4 variations).
    • Animation from the motion library: 22 motions (idle, walk, run, jump, sword slash, punch, kick, cast spell, shoot bow, block, hurt, death, crouch, dash, victory, climb, roll, throw, swim, fly, push). 10 credits per direction, flat, including drawing the character, in 1, 4 or 8 directions. Browse them at /motions.
    • 4 and 8-direction turnarounds (8 / 14 credits) and seamless tilesets of 16 tiles (6 credits).
    • AI edit to recolour or change an outfit (2 credits).
    • GIF to sprite with AI cleanup (5 credits per second).
    • 10 pixel-art style presets (16-bit, 8-bit, GBA, SNES, Game Boy, HD pixel, chibi, isometric, 1-bit, PICO-8), three views (side, top-down, isometric), frame sizes from 32 to 512 px, and a max-colours setting.
    • Live preview player with fps control, onion skin, frame stepping and background switching.

    Export

PNG sprite sheet, PNG + JSON frame data, animated GIF, ZIP of frames, Godot 4 SpriteFrames (.tres) with one animation per direction, and Aseprite-style JSON with frame tags. Integer upscaling on export. See exporting to your engine.

    Free browser tools

32 tools that run on your device with no account, no upload and no watermark, including Video to Sprite Sheet, GIF to Sprite Sheet, Image to Pixel Art, Sprite Sheet Slicer and Maker, Background Remover, Palette Swapper, Animation Previewer, Pixel Art Upscaler and the Pixel VFX Generator. All tools.

    Accounts and pricing

    • Sign up with an email and password. New accounts get 30 credits, plus 10 free credits every day.
    • Every plan, Free included, comes with commercial use, no watermark, and the REST API and MCP server. Plans differ in credits, frame size, parallel jobs, priority and storage time.
    • Plans: Starter ($9/month), Pro ($19) and Studio ($49), about 20% less when billed yearly. Credit packs from $5 that never expire. Payments and tax through Stripe.
    • Failed jobs refund their credits automatically. How credits work.

    Developers

    • REST API v1: jobs, motions, uploads, assets and API keys, with idempotency keys and per-plan limits. API reference.
    • Remote MCP server at https://aispritemaker.com/mcp with 10 tools for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code and other clients. MCP setup.
    • Editor integrations (free, MIT): Aseprite extension (Aseprite 1.3+), Godot 4 addon with a generate dock and a JSON → SpriteFrames converter (Godot 4.2+), Unity package with pixel-perfect import, slicing and AnimationClips (Unity 2021.3+), and a Claude Code plugin and skill.
    • CLI (aispritemaker): built and documented, npm release pending. CLI docs.
    • llms.txt and llms-full.txt for AI assistants.

    Site

The interface, tools and pricing are available in 12 languages. Docs, help center, guides, and comparisons with PixelLab, Sprite-AI and Ludo.ai are in English for now.

    Not switched on yet

We’d rather tell you than have you find out:

    • Custom motions (motions that aren’t in the library) and MP4/WebM/MOV to sprite on the server are built but waiting on the video pipeline. They return a clear “not available yet” message and cost nothing. The free in-browser Video to Sprite Sheet tool works today.
    • CLI on npm: the aispritemaker package isn’t published yet. Workaround.
    • Job-completion webhooks for the API: in development. Poll GET /jobs/:id for now.
    • Self-serve account deletion in Settings: for now, email us.

Each of these will get its own entry here when it ships.
