How to use the Sprite Sheet to GIF

  1. Drop the sprite sheet. Columns, rows and frame size are detected from the empty space between frames.
  2. Correct the grid if needed (columns, rows, frame size, margin, spacing).
  3. Choose the frame range, skip empty cells, and set FPS, ping-pong and loop count.
  4. Pick a scale and transparent or solid background.
  5. Download the GIF, or every frame as PNGs in a ZIP.

What you get

  • Animated GIF (transparent or flattened)
  • ZIP of the selected frames as numbered PNGs

Tips from making games with it

  • Click frames on the sheet to set the range quickly: a click before the start moves the start, any other click moves the end.
  • GIF delays are stored in 10 ms steps, so 12 FPS (83 ms) plays as 80 ms in some viewers. 10, 20, 25 and 50 FPS are exact.
  • GIF transparency is 1-bit. Semi-transparent edges are cut at 50%; flatten onto a background color if your sprite has soft shadows.
  • Scale up before sharing on social sites. Many of them blur small GIFs when they resize.

Use cases

  • Previewing animation sheets from an artist or AI tool
  • Sharing walk and attack cycles on Discord, X or itch.io
  • Making animated emotes and stickers
  • Checking timing before importing into an engine

FAQ

How is the grid detected?
The tool looks for fully empty (or background-colored) columns and rows between frames. If frames touch, it assumes square frames based on the sheet height. You can always edit the numbers.
Does the GIF keep transparency?
Yes, with GIF's 1-bit transparency. Pixels at or below 50% alpha become transparent. Use 'solid background' for soft edges.
Are colors preserved exactly?
Yes, when all frames together use 255 colors or fewer, which is normal for pixel art. Above that the encoder builds a reduced palette.
What is ping-pong?
The animation plays forward and then backward (1-2-3-2), which is handy for idle breathing and floating loops.
Is there a frame limit?
No hard limit, but very large sheets at high scale make big files. The file size is shown after export.
Is my sheet uploaded?
No. The GIF is encoded in your browser.
